Subject: Brown County Bradys and Ryans
This will be long and confusing but here goes (read your Mar 2003
E-mails on rootsweb.com/il~brown). Most of this is from my family
tree & gathered from gravestones, parish records, census etc.

We think Francis and Terence were brothers but emigrated to US
separately.
You'll find these two families in Brown Co from 1860 on (mostly in Pea
Ridge Twp) but there are OTHER BRADYS IN VERSAILLES IL who may be
related, incl. the James Brady who co-owned the Brady-Reid store.
Also in Pea Ridge in 1860 Cs:
-p. 894 Dw#1611 Fam#1549
-Thomas Ryan 55 b. IRE
-Nancy " wife 61 b. NC
-Nancy C. " dau 19 b. IL
-James Shay 25 b. IRE, probably a farmhand
Nancy Davis b @1799-1802 in NC married a Robert Golden
19 Jul 1830 in Greene Co IL. Their children were Robert R. Golden b
@1832 (IL) and Frances Golden b @
1835 (IL). Robert Sr. died sometime betw. 1834-1839 and Nancy Davis
Golden then m Thomas Ryan in Scott Co IL in 1839 and entire family
moved to Brown Co, where Thomas Ryan bought land on 18 Sep 1839:
-#024226 FD SWSW 12 01N 04W 4
-#029159 FD W2SE 11 01N 04W 4
Nancy Catherine Ryan was then born near Damon (Brown Co IL) 11 Mar
1841. She m the Pea Ridge James Brady listed above.
Thomas Ryan is thus listed in the 1880 Cs in James Brady's hh as
father-in-law, but had his own hh through the 1870 Cs.
Some further facts to add to this soup:
--30 May 1861 Nancy Ryan filed a petition for divorce against Tom
Ryan, in Brown Co., citing physical cruelty and failure to support. I
haven't found an actual divorce.
--In 1870 she's listed in Tom Ryan's hh as wife. Did she drop the
divorce action or did he lie to the census taker?
--14 Nov 1877 Robert R. Golden (her son) transferred land to Thomas
Ryan (his stepfather) and Nancy Brady (his half sister). Is this when
Nancy Ryan died?
--Nancy Brady's death cert lists her mother as CATHERINE BISHOP but
this info came from an in-law.
All other documents show NANCY DAVIS GOLDEN RYAN as her mother.
--I haven't been able to locate Nancy Ryan's death/burial. She isn't
buried with her husband Thomas Ryan in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cem.
Maybe she's in the city cem?
Anything you have or can find on Nancy Ryan's death/burial or divorce
would be greatly appreciated!
