Members,
Because
I have some of my DeCounter family on WFT, I receive many queries from folks
asking me for the ancestry of Eunice DeCounter who married Joseph "Little
Joe" Cox.
There
is a quote on page 36 of Cemeteries of Brown County: "William E. Cox, a
soldier Co. B 14th IL Inf. buried here, was a son of James P. Cox and Juliana
Orchard. His brother, Joseph (little Joe) is here with wife Eunice Decounter
and children Laurel and Emma and possibly Dwight."
This
quote is in the relationship section for Cooperstown Cemetery. The Cox burials
are listed on page 29. No matter how hard I look, I do not find burials for
this Joseph & Eunice nor the children in this cemetery.
I can
find no Eunice DeCounter in the area. I have found this marriage in the IL
State Marriage Index:
COX,
JOSEPH m SNIDER, EUNICE 05/20/1882 C /179 557 BROWN
Has
anyone researching either the Snider or Cox families secured a copy of this
marriage license from Brown County? I'd like to be able to give those who
inquire a correct answer.
