Dear Pat,

Here is what I found:

1870 Fed Census, Brown Co, IL

Town of Mt. Sterling, 103/103

Columbus Greenleaf, 23, farmer, b. IL

Martha Greenleaf, 22, b. KY

Mary Greenleaf, 24, b. IL

Joseph Greenleaf, 21, b. IL

Andrew Barlow, 13, b. IL

Louis Westfall, 30, domestic, b. IL

Ira Westfall, 10, b. IL

From the Illinois State Marriage Index:

GREENLEAF, COLUMBUS C m. BARLOW, MARTHA JANE – BROWN County - 10/23/1869 (Bk C  p.75  #1041)

1870 Fed Census, Brown Co, IL

Town of Mt. Sterling 213/213

Newton Barlow, 30, painter, b. KY

Lucinda Barlow, 21, b. IL

Orlando Barlow, 3, b. IL

John Barlow, 9/12, b. IL

From Illinois State Marriage Index & Marriages of Brown Co, IL:

BARLOW, ISAAC NEWTON m. BUVINGER, SARAH E. – BROWN County - 01/01/1861 (Book A&B #00000949)

BARLOW, I. N. m. CUNNINGHAM, LUCINDA – BROWN County - 09/23/1866 (Book C p.45 #575)

From Cemeteries of Brown County, IL, p. 204, 272, 468:

Isaac Newton Barlow was the son of Joseph Barlow & Elizabeth Gibson.

Sarah Ellen Buvinger Barlow died 27 Jan 1863, aged 23y 1m 30d, and is buried in the Mt. Sterling City Cemetery. A child of Newton and Sarah, Minnie, was raised by her Buvinger grandparents.

Newton and Lucinda Cunningham Barlow had 11 children.

1870 Fed Census, Brown Co, IL
Town of Mt. Sterling 222/222

James Barlow, 33, blacksmith, b. IL
Martha Barlow, 31, b. OH
Ida Barlow, 12, b. IL
Simeon Barlow, 6, b. IL
Maud Barlow, 8/12, b. IL

I couldn’t find any additional information on James. He isn’t listed in Cemeteries of Brown County, IL as a son of Joseph and Elizabeth Barlow, and none of his family members appear in that book. I couldn’t find his marriage either, so I am kind of stumped on this one. There is an Elida Barlow listed, with parents unknown (p. 204), who died age 6 month in 1865. Since James’ daughter, Ida was living in 1870, we can rule this out, unless her death was later than the cemetery listing shows.

Hope these are of help to you.
