Dear Gloria,

The burial information was a bust. I’ll provide it farther down. However, the Marriage information you have requested from the County appears to be correct. Here’s the marriage information I found that you will pay $5 to get a certified copy of:

This may be one of her sisters:

TREHARNE, JOHN             HOWARD, ANGELISE         9/06/1892    /     00188527    COOK

Here’s the burial information:

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Huffman;

re:  John W. Howard #143
Born Rising Sun, Indiana, 1819, and died December 16, 1865
Married Margaret (Sheridan) Howard

I am searching for the burial site of my great-great-grandfather, John
W. Howard, who served in the Civil War.  According to story, he died of
war related disabilities somewhere in a hospital in Memphis, Tennessee;
the hospital burned and all records were destroyed.  I have written many

sources to find out where he was interred but to no avail -- perhaps in
a national cemetery marked "unknown".

The Howard family was originally from Rising Sun, Indiana, and moved to
Martin Township, McLean County, Illinois (now Colfax) sometime after
John's death in December of 1865 to live near Margaret's sister, Jane
and her husband W. G. Anderson, who were fairly well-to-do.

I also noticed a listing for Arminie Jones #9 (may be spelled
incorrectly) and William Jones #222.  A long shot -- possibly John's
daughter, Aremina Jane Howard who married a William Franklin Jones in
1899 in Brown County.  I am in the process of requesting a marriage
certificate for Aremina and William from the Brown County Courthouse.
(Don't know if these people are my family or not.)

Aremina was born in Rising Sun, Indiana, in approximately 1848. Don't
know much about her. The name Aremina is unusual, as well as those of
her sisters, Aliquippa and Angelisa.  Was told they were named after
boats that ran the Ohio river.  John W. was a boatman.

I appreciate what you are doing as I find this stuff fascinating!  Hope
you uncover some good things.

Thank you,

Gloria Colgan
