Thank you Laurie for taking your time to look up the Smiths. The only marriage I know is that of Lorenzo Smith and Sarah D. Gray about 1866. I cannot find their marriage, but Sarah lived Pike Co. IL. Checked that county to no avail; also the Illinois Statewide Marriages.
Census records: I found "a" Lorenzo Smith on 1850 Scott Co. IL; the a "L" Smith with widowed mother, Mary, on 1860 Brown Co. IL; Lorenzo & Sarah are on 1870 Pike Co. IL; then 1880 Monroe Co. MO census records.
I have no idea who Caleb Smith or Parthena Smith married - since they are uncommon names, would you have a marriage for either of them?
As you can see, I am pulling at straws trying to find anything about Lorenzo Smith - I have been looking for his parents for 28 years, smile.
Thank you again, Gerri

The listing you asked for appears to give exactly what you need.

Cemeteries of Brown Co, IL p. 236 & 266, Mt. Sterling City Cemetery: Children of J. & M. Smith: George, John Wesley, Joseph, Lorenzo, Caleb,
Eliza,
Mary Ann, Parthena, Lovina (p. 266), and Margaret. The relationship section (p. 266) links only these names. There are other
Smiths, of course, but it isn't clear whether or not they are part of the
Same
family. I suggest a census search beginning with 1850 in order to track
the
names listed as Lorenzo's siblings.
I've glanced at the Smith marriages (1839-1861) anf find one or two that
are
possibly from this family, but without a census match up of husband and
wife,
I'm just guessing.
As you formulate a plan, keep in touch. I'll help where I can.

Ken,
I am very much interested in the Smith family that is listed on pg 236
in
"Cemeteries of Brown Co. IL" that was on the Brown Co. website.
My gr-grandfather, Lorenzo Smith, was married to Sarah Gray and I am
trying
to find his parents. In the index, there is a Lorenzo Smith listed;
there
are other Smiths on pg 236.
Would appreciate any info you can send me regarding the Smiths.

Gerri,
After so many years searching, I would hope the discovery of Joseph (his father)
would feel satisfying. With a name as unusual as Lorenzo, a doubt there is a
mistake.
As for Caleb and Parthena, I believe Parthena probably never married, since her
burial is listed under her maiden name. And there was no listing for Caleb in
Brown County - but I only have up to 1861, so he could be after that time and I
wouldn't know.
