Ed,

This 1870 Census entry appears to be A. E. also.

1870 Census of Brown County, Illinois, Mt Sterling Twp

140/140     18 July 1970

Arthur Smith 53 m farmer Ohio

Ortha Smith 51 f Ohio

Samuel Smith 21 m Ohio

Hannah Smith 23 f Ohio

George Smith 12 m Ohio

Arthur Smith 8 m Ohio

Marion Smith 18 m Ohio

Jane Smith 87 f Ireland

Comparing with the 1880 Census, Ortha and Orpha are similar names, ages of Arthur and Orpha/Ortha are exactly 10 years apartin the cenuses, Both are from Ohio, June appears to be Arthur’s mother and she is from Ireland and this is also matches in the 1880 Census. So while not absolute evidence builds a strong possibility.

I can find no other references to this family in the resources I have.

Sincerely,

Ken Huffman
