Mount Sterling Message, February 7, 1923 Andrew Jackson Worthington

 

Andrew Jackson Worthington was born in Brown County, Illinois on Mary 21, 1848.  Died at his home in Mt. Sterling, February 1, 1923, aged 74 years, 10 months, and 10 days.  In the fall of 1878 he went to Harlan County, Nebraska, and on November 27, 1881, was united in marriage to Miss Tressia Irons of Sacramento, Nebraska.  To this happy couple were born eleven children, eight girls and three boys.

 

Those who are left to mourn his untimely death are the bereaved wife, six daughters, two sons and twenty-three grandchildren with a host of other relatives and friends.  Two daughters and a son preceded him to the great beyond.  All the children were present at the funeral except two daughters, Mrs. Scriber and Mrs. Thompson.  He never confessed religion but was a dear lover of the Bible and all its truths.

 

The funeral was held at the family home Saturday morning at 10:30, conducted by Rev. Finnan of the Baptist Church-interment in the Cross Roads Cemetery.

Andrew Worthington, retired farmer who for the past 6 or 7 yrs. had been living in Mt. Sterling died at his home in the north part of the city at 3:00 o'clock Thursday morning.  Mr. Worthington would have been 75 years of age the 21st of this month.

 

About a year ago Mr. Worthington suffered a stroke and had been in poor health since that time.  Thursday in the early morning the visitation of the second summoned him quickly across the Great Divide.

 

Decedent was born March 21, 1848, in Brown County where all his life prior to his coming to this city a few years ago, he followed the life of an agriculture list.  During all these years, with the exception of a few months in Iowa, Mr. Worthington had made his home in Brown County. 

 

He was a man of a large family and is survived besides his wife by six daughters, Mrs. Mary Bond, of Ida Grove, Iowa; Mrs. Emma Bond, Ida Grove, Iowa; Miss Etta Worthington at home; Mrs. Geneva Thompson, Rushville, Illinois; Mrs. Zola Bond, Ida Grove Iowa; Mrs. Ruth Scriber, Britt, Iowa and two sons, Wm. Bradford and John Amos of Bushnell, IL. 

 

Twenty-three grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Lucy Brown of this city and three brothers, Peter and Orlando of Timewell, and Marion Worthington of Trenton, Missouri, also survive.

 

The funeral arrangements have not been completed but will probably be held from the family home Saturday afternoon, followed with interment in the Cross Roads Cemetery.
