Versailles, Illinois February 26, 1899
Died -- In Cass County, Ill. in February ____ 1899, his age being 74 years, ___ months, ___ days. Deceased was born in Davidon County, North Carolina, December 21th [sic] 1824. But came with his parents to Illinois in 1844, and was one of the earliest settlers in Schuyler County, where he has resided until recently when he moved to Cass County.
His wife, who died seven months before, was a faithful Latter-Day Saint, and their hospitable home has given shelter to many of the Elders, who will receive this sadness with sympathies drawn out in behalf of those left to mourn the loss of a father , abrother, and a relitave [sic]. Deceased leaves two sons, John and Arthur,adaughter a,d three sistes, two of whom are faithful Latter-Day Saints. Deceased was also a relative of the Stephens who located in Ogden in 1851.
The funeral services were condicted [sic} by D. P. Stephens of Ogden, and G.W. leishman of Logan Utah, who are now laboring as missionaried in Brown County, Illinois, at the Davis Cemetery, where he was laid beside his wife to await the heavenlay call.
