Obituary of Margaret Murphy Gleason Woods

Margaret Murphy was born in County Kerry, Ireland, October 27, 1844,
died in St. Mary's hospital, Quincy, June 9, 1927. When seven years of
age she came to this country with her parents, Martin and Margaret
Murphy, locating on a farm in Schuyler County. She was married to
William Gleason June 29, 1862. and to this union four children were
born. Mr. Gleason died May 12, 1874. Eleven years later she was again
married to John Woods, who preceded her in death January 30, 1920. The
oldest son, John Gleason, died April 28 of the present year. The
surviving ones are: Mrs. Robert Armstrong, Mrs. Thomas Monckton, and
James Gleason of Mt. Sterling; one stepson, Willie Gleason of Quincy,
and one brother, Patrick Murphy of Springfield.
On Friday the body was conveyed to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Armstrong on West Main street. There was high mass for the repose of
her soul Saturday morning at 8 o'clock. Funeral services were held
Saturday immediately after the
9 o'clock mass by Rev. P. J. Fox and interment was in the Catholic
cemetery.
Mrs. Woods was a consistent and practical member of the Roman Catholic
church. For the past several years she has been a tertiary in the Third
Order Secular of St. Francis and buried in the habit of that order.
Those who attended the funeral from a distance were: Patrick Murphy of
Springfield; Miss Mary Armstrong, Virginia, Mrs. John Gleason and
daughters, Misses Philomena and Josphine of Quincy.
