Dear Olyn,

I found the marriage record in the Illinois Marriages database (http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/GenealogyMWeb/marrsrch.html) .

I also found the burial record for Jonas in the Cemeteries of Brown County, Illinois, pp. 313,330

Ripley Cemetery

Jonas Allbert 24 Dec 1854, age 35y, 2 m, 8 d.

As you may already know, the family does not appear in the 1850 Census for Brown county. He has to be somewhere nearby. I checked the Schuyler 1850 Census and didn’t find him. You may want to check other nearby counties for him.

There is a William Albert listed on p. 174 of the History of Schuyler and Brown Counties. He was under a list of veterans of the Muster roll of the Fiftieth Infantry, Company B. Under men from Brown county. “Albert, William, mustered out 13 July 1863”.

I also checked the AIS for the whole state and found nothing. I suppose it’s possible that the family got missed in the 1850 census. The whole state has no Allbert families.  I did find a 3 yr old named John Ulbert in Brown County which could be Albert and it was listed that way in the AIS. I double checked the hand writing and it still looks like a U to me but A cannot be totally ruled out.

I looked for anyone named Jonas in Brown County and then for anyone named Jennetta/Jenetta and came up empty on both. So if they are in the Illinois 1850 Census they are under different names. It seems strange that they get married there and then 10 years later Jonas is buried there and there is no other record in between.

It is possible that they are living with another family and the Census taker missed the surname. The AIS only lists heads of house and individuals with other surnames. Keep looking, a clue will show up somewhere.

Sincerely,

Ken Huffman

I am researching my 2nd great grand father, Jonas Allbert.  I was at his
grave several weeks ago in the Ripley, Brown Co., IL cemetery.  I am
trying to locate his birthplace and parents.  His name is Jonas Allbert,
b. 16 Oct 1819, m. Maria Jennetta Decounter 1 Dec 1844 (in Brown Co.,
IL., I believe), d. 24 Dec 1854 in Brown Co., IL.

Maria Jannetta remarried Jonathan Stoffer 23 Dec 1858, in Ripley, IL.
She died 9 Jan 1883 and is buried in the Macomb, McDonough Co., IL
cemetery, lot 109, blk 3, book p. 217.  She had four children.  They
were:
William Allbert ( my great grand father)
        Samuel Allbert
        Ida Demenath Allbert
                Sam & Ida were twins.
Thanks, Olyn Wade Allbert
