Evelyn:

Cemeteries of Brown County, IL 1825-1972 lists Elijah Veatch on page 301, Mounds Cemetery, Timewell, Pea Ridge Township, Brown County, Illinois. The listing suggests that the headstone was difficult to read:

Rev. Elijah Veach (died ___12, 1878, aged??)

Note the variation in surname, and the year difference. At least the "12" reflects your data.

Out of curiosity, I did some further checking. Neither Elijah or Sally appear in the 1860 or 1870 censuses, and Sally is not in the 1880.

The only other reference I found was in The History of Schuyler & Brown Counties, IL 1686-1882, p. 223. Elijah is mentioned there as having been one of three "Elders" of the Mt. Zion United Baptist Church in Mason County, IL in 1841 who assisted in an ordination. The ordained Reverend (James W. Baldwin) moved to Schuyler County, IL in 1849, and thence to Brown County in 1871. It appears Rev. Elijah Veatch may have followed the same pattern, and may have been a reverend of the same congregation as Baldwin. The United Baptist's of Brown County disbanded in 1875.

I hope this information is of help to you. If you need any further information, I suggest you contact the Versailles Area Genealogical & Historical Association. They have access to individual information and collections that might offer more detail.

We also appreciate having the full dates of birth death, and the marriage for Elijah and Sally (Danner) Veatch.

Sincerely,

Subject: Cemeteries of Brown County Lookup

As chairman of the Jonathan Jennings Chapter Daughters of 1812 grave location project, I am requesting a look-up of the name of a cemetery where ELIJAH VEATCH is buried. Elijah was born 23 AUG 1793 in TN and died 12 DEC 1879 in your county. He served at the rank of Sgt. under Capt. Hiram C. Boone's Company from Harrison County, IN. He was married here 24 DEC 1815 to Sally Danner. I could not find where she is buried but probably in an unmarked grave beside her husband. .I appreciate  your interest in answering this.
