Just an additional note about the census. The census taker was supposed to indicate ages relative to the end of the census year. The census year for 1870 was Jun 1 1869 to May 31, 1870. So, this person appears to have followed instructions on aging the child. If we back up one month from May 1870, we get April. There is a column on this census for the month of birth for children born in the census year.
