Dear Katherine,

I check the primary resource for deaths in Brown County, “Cemeteries of Brown County, Illinois”, for Jeremiah England. I’m sorry to say, there are no deaths in the county up to 1972 who had the surname England. We have English and Engleman but even those do not have a Jeremiah.

This does not mean he did not die in Brown County, but it does severely diminish the possibilities. Graves from the 1850’s have had a lot of time to deteriorate and even the authors of the “Cemeteries” Book found many unmarked and/or unreadable grave markers. I do not know where the information came from indicating that Jeremiah died in Brown County, but it appears to be wrong unless a better source than I have can be found. You might want to check burials in the surrounding counties. I have often found burials for Brown County deaths in them

Sincerely,

Ken Huffman

Subject: Jeremiah England 1857/58 death records

I have been looking for Jeremiah England b. 1790 NC and his wife Sally for years.  His kids by two different marriages are in Scott co Il by 1860.  Some of his kids have been adopted, and some with older married siblings.  I found someone has put Jeremiah d. 1857/58 Brown co IL.  Does Brown co have his name in cemetery records or death records?

Thanks,

Katherine Russell
