Hello Ken,

It's kind of been a mystery to me also but I've been going off what I have on official documents. On Sarah and Frank Miller's marriage license (you have a copy of this) it lists her as "Miss Sara Ashcraft" Unfortunately the return of marriage to county clerk part is not filled out. I think what was significant was they listed her as Miss and not Mrs. On Sara's son's (Thomas Miller) marriage license (you have a copy of this also) it lists her mother's maiden name as Sarah C. Ashcraft. Then on Sarah's death certificate it lists her parents as Wm. Ammerman and Nancy Mightower. So there could be a verity of reasons for this but it's all I know for now.

Thanks and Merry Christmas, Eric

Eric,

I examined the death certificate of Sarah Catherine Miller, and found her father to be Wm. Ammerman. You had named the jpg file Sarah Catherine (Ashcaft) Miller Certificate of Death.jpg. I’m wondering if I missed something or if there has been an error in her maiden name.

Sincerely and Merry Christmas!,

Ken Huffman
