Sarah Rawlings

Sarah Rawlings

Sarah Rawlings was probably born in Harrison County, Kentucky about 1797. Shortly after 1800, her father Nathan and his family settled in the Franklin/Pickaway County, Ohio area, where, in Pickaway County, Sarah married Robert Higgins in 1810. Nathan moved west to Illinois about 1816-17, where his children and their families settled. Robert Higgins probably died in Brown County, IL between 1840 and 1850. Sarah Rawlings-Higgins appears to have re-married first to William Stableton in 1855 and then to John Wilson in 1858 in Brown County. In 1860 she is living next door to her son James Higgins, and has living with her a grandson, Jose Deacon (Ira?). Following is data collected relating to Robert and Sarah and to their following children:

2. David J HIGGINS was born in Ohio on 06 Dec 1812, he is in Gentry Co, Mo in the 1850 census and DeKalb Co, Missouri in 1860. By 1870 he and his (2nd?) wife Katherine HARDIN are living in Schuyler Co, Illinois (mine)

3. Nathan Higgins was born on 09 March 1815

4. James R Higgins was born on 19 April 1817 in Kentucky, and married Harriett STABLETON in 1843 in Brown Co, Illinois.

5. Mary Jane Higgins was born in Kentucky on 24 March 1819 and married Evan J DEAKINS in 1839 in Brown Co, Illinois.

6. John S Higgins was born on 30 Aug 1821

7. Angeline Higgins was born on 25 Feb 1824 and married Samuel A

PERRY in 1841 in Brown Co, Illinois.

8. IvyAnn Higgins was born on 30 Jan 1826

9. Clark B Higgins was born in Illinois on 12 Nov 1829 and married Mary Ann LESTER in 1849 in Brown Co, Illinois.

Higgins; Hardin, Shelts
David and Catherine (Hardin) Higgins were living in Greene County Missouri, when their daughter Martha was born, about 1850. They later moved to Schuyler Co, Illinois, where she married (as his first wife), Phillip Shelts on 26 Aug 1866. She died giving birth to their 5th child, on 18 Aug 1878. David and Catherine Higgins also had at least 2 other children (Mary A, born abt 1855 and Isaac Newton ,born abt 1857). David also had at least 2 sons by his first marriage, John and Clark Higgins.
