BELL, SARRATT
Seek information about John Bell who was listed in the Schuyler and Brown Co History book on page 285 for Elkhorn Township. It states he was born somewhere in the Rocky Mountains, but I doubt that's true. He was actually from Alabama, and his daughter Martha Jane Bell was born in Alabama, and the family moved to Brown Co. She later married Jeremiah Sarratt. I understand this John Bell had a son named John Bell. All the Bell info I find is for a group of Kentucky/Indiana Bells, not apparently related to my John. My John Bell died between 1830-40 in Brown Co. I have been unable to find any other info about him. Would appreciate any help at all about John Bell or John Jr. Thanks.

ROOT
ROOTs in Brown County
I was given some information that several ROOTs migrated from New York to Kentucky and then settled in Brown County. I am trying to find my GGGG-Grandparents. I am not certain...but I believe they were Samuel and Ruth (Crook) Root. It is also possible that it's Thomas and Ruth (Crook) Root. They were both from Piermont, Grafton Co., NH.
My GGG-Grandfather, Erastus Root, was born in Livonia, Livingston Co., NY (I think) and married in Geauga Co., OH in 1832 (Marcia Davis). He also appeared in the 1830 Census for Geauga Co. He made his way West through Warrick Co., IN (1840) and Fremont Co., IA....and finally settled in Visalia, Tulare County, CA. I have discovered there is a ROOT cemetery....is there anyone who has specific knowledge of this cemetery...or where I might find information on my ROOTs. I would appreciate any information regarding research in Brown County..... Thanks so much for your time.

BARKER, CLARIDGE, POWELL

I am still searching for my grandmother Edith BARKER. I still can't prove anything. I did receive an obiturary for Inez BARKER POWELL who I think is Ediths sister/cousin. I received this by email and the parents names are almost blacked out. But I am pretty sure they are James Henry BARKER and Jeannette CLARIDGE.

In looking at the Brown Co. cemetery listing I find a Nettie CLARIDGE page 140 and several James Barkers, one a James H. BARKER on page 140. Am pretty sure these are the ones I am looking for.

Inez Obit also lists her siblings as:

Florence LIPCAMAN of Mt. Sterling, Brown Co., Illinois

Alta HETRICK of Ca. (I had her husband as ? HENDRICKS/HENDRIX(?))

Preceded in death by 2 Bros. and 3 sisters

My speculations on those who preceded her:

Brothers

1. Virgil BARKER

2. Unknown BARKER

Sisters

1. Ora BARKER mar. Warren SHINNERBARGER (have his obit. also)

2. (hopefully my grandmother) Edith BARKER

3. Unknown BARKER

Would appreciate any information on any of the above. Thank you in advance.

MCMEINS
I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO FIND MY GREAT GRANDFATHERIN MY MCMEINS LINE. HIS TOMBSTONE SAYS BIRD MCMEINS B. 3/22/1863 AND DIED 4/23/1933. HE IS BURIED AT MT. HOREB CEMETERY. I HAVE HEARD BUT NOT PROVEN THAT HIS FATHER WAS NAMED CHARLES AND MOTHER MARY. I BELIEVE SOME OF HIS SIBLINGS WERE NAMED AMMON, LILBURN, MARY, EDWARD, ANNIS, GEORGE, ELIAS, LUNETTA EFFIE, AND CHARLES. BIRD MARRIED ELIZABETH MILLER 1ST. THEN MY GREAT GRANDMOTHER MINNIE LEE (WRIGHT) SMITH. MY GRANDMOTHER WAS GRACE FRANCIS (MCMEINS) VERMILLION. GRANDMA LIVED IN MT. STERLING AS LONG AS I COULD REMEMBER BEFORE HER DEATH IN 1971. MY UNCLE ED VERMILLION LIVED THERE AND TAUGHT BASEBALL TILL HIS DEATH. I'M SURE THERE SHOULD BE SOME RECORD OF A BIRD MCMEINS IN THE AREA BUT I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO GET AWAY AND DRIVE DOWN THERE TO CHECK. I CAN'T EVEN FIND A MARRIAGE LICENSE FOR MY GRANDMA GRACE MCMEINS AND MY GRANDPA ( I NEVER EVEN SAW) LEWIS EDGAR VERMILLION. SINCE THEY WERE RAISING FAMILIES IN THAT AREA AND SOME ARE STILL THERE, I THOUGHT MAYBE INFORMATION WOULD BE THERE.

SARRATT, WOOD
Seek info on Crawford Wood who married Eveline Sarratt on Oct 31, 1856, in Brown Co. Believe Eveline to be daughter of John and Margaret (Briggs) SARRATT. Crawford Wood is listed as an heir to the estate of John Sarratt in January 1865. A copy of the Will indicates that Evaline Woods (spelling on Will) witnessed the mark of John BELL, who was also listed as an heir. Assume this John Bell to be husband of Elizabeth Sarratt. Is this John BELL related to Martha Bell who married Jeremiah Sarratt in Brown Co.? Seek to determine proper family relationships. (end)
