DECKER, HALL
I have been searching for Granville Hall born Feb.6,1835. Granville has written on all his papers he is from Scott Co. Kentucky, but the only Granville Hall I can find in the 1850 census for Illinous is in Brown Co. and it lists him as living with Elisha and James Hall sons of Elijah and Susan Hall. My problem is, there has been a story passed down through the generations that Granville's mother died in Ky when Granville was about 3 or 4 years old. Granville's father joins a wagon train headed for Illinous, Granville wants to go back to his mother so he runs away and they cannot find him so they go on. Another wagon train going to Illinous finds him and raises him as thier own. What I am wondering is this Hall family he is living with his family or the one who picked him up. Also on the 1850 census it states that Granville was born in Virginia. Would anybody happen to know anything about this Granville Hall so I can at least say they are not the same people. My Granville married Christena Decker in Pike Co., Illinous April 15, 1858. They had fourteen children and are both buried in Dawn Missouri. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you!!!!

LARKIN, NEET, ROUSE

I am looking for information on Thomas Jefferson Rouse, born 1841 in Illinois. Thomas Jefferson Rouse married Isabella Larkin. They had two children who lived to marry. The children were Charles Sawyer Rouse, (my paternal grandfather) and Mabel Rouse. Mabel married Fred Neet and had I think four children. My grandfather Charles Sawyer Rouse married Julia Welker of Missouri. My father was Charles Welker Rouse, and uncles John, Robert, and William Rouse.

The Larkins are well documented, see Marcia Farina's excellent entry on this page of 24 Mar 2000. The Rouses are not well documented. If anyone has any information on Thomas Jefferson Rouse, I would appreciate any leads.

WARDEN, PILCHER, STINSON

Elijah WARDEN can be found in Brown Co., IL in the 1840 census and apparently came originally from the Surry Co., NC area. He is believed to be the son of Elijah Warden, Sr., who is also said to have had a son named Michael.

My g-g-g-grandfather, Robert Warden, may well be the brother of this Elijah, Jr., and Michael. I am trying to prove this (or even prove if he's an uncle or cousin). Robert was born in 1790 in Surry Co., NC and eventually moved to Lincoln Co., TN where he later died. However, he and his family lived in Illinois for about three years and, given the proximity of Robert and Elijah in Surry Co., as well as the Illinois connection (Robert had at least one child born in Illinois), I would not be surprised to see that he either owned or rented land in Brown Co. during those few years.

The following are some Surry Co., NC connections that seem to tie these families further.

James PILCHER, bondsman for Lovill Spilmon and Sarah Dinkins - 19 December 1820

Levil Spilmon bondsman for Robert WARDEN and Betsy Pilcher - 20 January 1821

Elkana Hutchins and Michael Warden, bondsmen for Samuel Spilman and Aley Hutchins - 13 January 1824

Robert Warden, bondsman for Elijah Warden and Mary STINSON - 27 July 1825

Elijah Warden and Brown County seem to be the ONLY Warden - IL links available just now. But it does seem too coincidental. Robert's wife was Elizabeth "Betsy" PILCHER, and Elijah's wife was Mary STINSON. In addition, please note that Elijah, Jr. had a son named Robert and a son named Michael.

Are there any Warden researchers in the area who've come across land or other legal records involving this family?

Thanks!

SARATT,SARRATT,SURRATT

While researching the Saratt/Sarratt/Surratt family in Brown County, I learned from the 1880 Census that my gggrandfather was adopted. His name was Frank W. Surratt, b. abt 1873 in Illinois. He was listed as the adopted son of William and Sarah Surratt/Saratt. Frank's natural parents were reported to have been born in Illinois.

Does anyone know if adoption records were kept at that time? If so, how does one obtain them? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you!
