(Coy, Lamb)

I have recently started thinking that my ancestor, Mary Eliza (Lamb) Coy could have a Brown County connection. She was born about 1844 in Kentucky and died 14 Oct. 1897, with burial in Newman Cemetery, near Arenzville, Illinois. She was married 11 Nov. 1858 at Arenzville to Starret Preston Coy (1838-1922) a Union Civil War soldier. Although I have searched for data on her for years, I have never actually connected her to anyone other than her husband and children. I thought she might connect to John and Cornelia Lamb or Morgan County, Illinois and so I worked on that family for a while. They had a daughter, Mary, but I still thought my Mary Eliza could be a niece, etc. That research never made a direct connection. Any help or advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

(Johnson, Parker, Waters)

I'm looking for information regarding my great grandmother, Emma Johnson. My great grandfather's name was Alva Johnson, and I believe they got married in Brown county in the 1880's. She was possibly married to a man named Parker prior to marrying my great grandfather. They had several children, including my grandmother, Alice Johnson Waters. At one time, they lived at Siloam Springs. I am particularly interested in finding out who Emma's mother was. I believe she was of the Indian persuasion, and her name was Mabel. Thank you for any information you can give me.

(Clark, Gruney, McKinney/Kinney, Knight, Reid, Welsh)

I am trying to learn more about my great-great grandparents. I have uncovered two separate sets of data with slightly different names for my great-great grandmother -- one set of information has lead me to Brown County, IL. Here is what I know:
Name: MARY JANE (alternative JANE ANN or JANE) KNIGHT
Birth: abt. 1842 in Brown County, IL (note: another source indicated it may be 1839)
Death: 6 May 1920
Marriage: 12 Jan. 1860 in Brown County, IL to EGBERT ALONZO CLARK
Mary's Parents (possibly): James Knight and Martha McKinney (or Kinney)

Children (all born in Illinois):
1.William (born abt. 1862)
2. Mary (born abt. 1863)
3. Sofronoh (born abt. 1866)
4. Charles (born abt. 1870)
5. Edward (born abt. 1872)
6. Emma (born abt. 1874) married Joseph Reid
7. Thomas (b. 29 Mar. 1876 near Clayton, Adams Co., IL and married Ethel Estella Gruny in Quincy, IL on 2 Feb. 1909).
8. Owen James (aka Jessie) (b. 1881 -- married Clara Jane Welsh possibly on Adams Co., IL)

Questions:

OWEN JAMES and CLARA JANE Welsh CLARK are my great-grandparents. I need to establish the connection between this "Brown County" Knight and the woman I know for a fact is: MARY JANE KNIGHT CLARK who married an Egbert Clark and is the mother of at least a Charles, Edward, Owen, and Emma (based upon the obituary of Thomas Clark).

If we make the connection, then I would love to know anything you may uncover about the KNIGHT side of the family (confirming her parents names or finding any siblings) -- any little thing at all to give me a starting place to research that line of my family.

I hope I have given you enough information to go on. I appreciate anything you may come up with.

Searching for the identity of the parents of Levi GIBSON. Levi was married to Hannah Barlow in Brown County, Illinois, and the parents of his wife Hannah BARLOW. the only thing I have seen is a Senita Barlow in the census, but cannot find out if this is actually her name or a typing error. See http://aemyers.net/genealogy for the line of descent; contact information is at http://www.aemyers.net/contact. Freeborn H. Gardner MAY be the person referenced at http://www.farwesthistory.com/forces.htm which reports "Freeborn H. Gardner also joined Patten's company and went as far as 'Bragg's place,' While there, 'I heard D. Patten lecturing the troops; heard him direct his men how to shoot to bring their guns up on a rise to their object, and hold their breath, and fire; and generally they would make a deadly shoot [sic]' But Gardner decided to turn back and didn't participate in the raid on Bogart. Benjamin Bragg's place was located in the southeast quarter of the southwest quarter of section 11, township 55, range 29 [Correspondence & Orders, 133-134]." (McMeins, Vermillion)

Janet,

My name is Jourdan Burke and I live in Marietta, GA. I saw you posting from June 1, 2001 re: Grace McMeins and Lewis Edgar Vermillion. I am building a personal genealogy database and I am researching this family who are distant cousins of mine.

My records show that Lewis and Grace McMeins Vermillion had five children: Mary Louise, Lewis, Edward, Walter Raymond (died two days after birth), and Edith Marie. Are you the child of Lewis Vermillion or Edith Vermillion?

I am related to you through Lewis Edgar Vermillion, your grandfather.

Cousin Jourdan

Ken Reeder September 23, 2004

(Daigh, Ferguson, Johnson, Mirfield, Reeder, Rigg, Thompson, Troxell)

There is a Henry FURGUSON, b: 1843, listed in the 1860 Brown Co., IL census. Can the reader tell me anything of this Henry? Parents, siblings?

Margaret A. JOHNSON, m: William K. FERGUSON, Feb 25, 1838, Pike County, Illinois. They had four children: Mary A., b: 1840; Henry, b: 1843; Jane, b: 1845; Sarah, b: 1848. The 1850 Pike Co., IL census indicates that Margaret was born in KY Pg 43 Dwelling 286

My ancestor, Benjamin F. REEDER d: in Nov 1854 in Pike Co., IL. Benjamins (1st) wife, Pricie (RIGG) REEDER, apparently died early in 1850, and Benjamin m: (2nd) Margaret A. (JOHNSON) FERGUSON, 15 Aug 1850, believed to be widow of William K. FERGUSON.

Benjamin and Margaret had a dau., Arrobella, b: 23 May 1851

Benjamins son, Zachariah REEDER, b: 1843, Pike Co., IL; was in the great war and so we have records of his family (that reveal nothing of his fathers family): and son, Joseph M REEDER, b: 1846, Pike Co., IL, m: Amanda TROXELL in 1870 in DeWitt Co., IL

Zachariah is listed in the 1880 Elkhorn, Brown Co., IL census, living with a Samuel THOMPSON family, with his 10 year old son, Alfred (Daigh) REEDER. (pg 492 C) His first wife, Mary Margaret DAIGH, had died 23 Sep 1875, in Griggsville, Pike Co. He m: second; Mary Elizabeth MIRFIELD, 27 Dec 1882, dau. of Daniel MIRFIELD.

Any information on these REEDER or FERGUSON folks will be appreciated.
