Mother and Babe Dead

It is a very sad condition in the home of Perry Riggs (Rigg), the carpenter, who has his family home in the house of Jim Davis on Morgan street in the southeast part of town. Several of them have been sick with the flu and complications. On Tuesday noon the baby, aged 14 months died. Mrs Riggs’ (Rigg) life passed out Tuesday night. The two will be buried in one grave by Undertaker Aber of Mt. Sterling, at Hersman, their home before coming to Clayton a few months ago.

The husband and two or three other young children are quite sick, but not considered very seriously so by the attending physician. Mr and Mrs Barker, the parents of Mrs. Riggs (Rigg), have been here from Hersman for several days assisting to care for the sick ones and the kind and sympathetic neighbors are bestowing attention to their wants and it is de- ( it ends here?)

Feb 7, 1920 Democrat Message

Robert Verne Rigg, the infant son of Mr and Mrs Perry Rigg, was born Nov. 30, 1918 at Timewell, Illinois. He departed this life at the home of his parents at Clayton, Ill. Feb 3, 1920 age 14 months and 3 days.

Mrs Edith Rigg, daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Barker was born near Hersman, Ill., June 27, 1890 and passed away at her home in Clayton, Ill. Feb. 4, 1920 aged 29 years, 7 months and 7 days.

While a young girl, gave her heart to God and united with the Methodist church at Versailles, Ill. On Oct 24, 1909, she was married to  Perry Allen (Allie) Rigg. To this  union were born six children: Noel Clifford, Catherine Mand (Katherine Maude), James Blantain (Blanton), Roy Genar, Perry Jr., and Robert Verne. Noel having preceded her in death, at the age of 2 years. Robert Verne passing away just a few hours before his mother. Besides her husband and four children, she leaves to mourn her loss, five sisters, one brother and a host of relatives and friends.


My grandfather, it doesn’t mention Brown Co., so don’t know how you want to treat this. He was the son of John B. Rigg, grandson of Joseph and Elizabeth Ingram Rigg. He was born October 10, 1887 Anthony, Harper Co, Kansas but married in Brown Co., and all of his children were born there. I also have his and Edith’s marriage cert.

His Obit reads:

Perry A. Rigg, 68,  of 805 Nickols (Nichols), a longtime resident of Springfield, died yesterday morning in Springfield Baptist Hospital after a long illness.

Mr Rigg, a member of the Baptist Church, is survived by his wife,  Bell, a daughter, Mrs Leon (Katherine) Jordan of 2201 North Taylor; three sons,  James of 2045 Hoffman, Roy of 2243 North Taylor, and Perry A. Rigg, Jr.,  of Napa, Calif.; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral arrangements are under direction of  Jewell Windle Funeral home. Brookline Cem. Brookline, Mo.   (Just outside of Springfield)
