Richard “Dick” Orr, 71, of Perry died at 9:38 p.m. Sunday, Oct 1, 2000, in St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.

Born April 18, 1929, in Fairmount Township in Pike County, he was a son of Russell and Mary Eliza Noble Orr. He married Jackie Elledge on Jan. 7, 1951, in Pittsfield. She survives.

Mr. Orr was a 1947 graduate of Perry High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He had been employed by Earl R. Walters Plumbing and Heating, and Doyle Plumbing and Heating, both of Jacksonville, for 25 years. As a child, he attended the old South Prairie Church northwest of Perry. He was a member of the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 137 and Perry Masonic Lodge 95 AF&AM and a former member of the Perry American Legion Post.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Eric (Patricia Anne) Goewey of Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, NM; 2 sons, Rich Orr (wife Sherry) of Brookshire, TX and Jerry Orr of Perry, 7 grandchildren, Mrs. Jon (Keli) Mummert of Astoria, Michael Booth of Warrensburg, MO, Jamie Moser of Anchorage, Alaska, Jessica and Jennifer Orr, both of Mount Sterling, Evan Goewey of Alamogordo, NM and Brian Cramer of Brookshire, TX; 2 great-grandchildren, Tyler and Chase Mummert of Astoria; 4 sisters, Margaret Tipsword of Pittsfield, Arlene Reese of Griggsville, Edith Curry of Perry and Mrs. Bill (Frances) Miller of Baylis; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marjorie Stormer.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Skinner- Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Griggsville. Burial was in Hebron Cemetery in rural Brown County with military rites conducted by the Perry American Legion Post.

A Masonic service was held at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home by the Perry Masonic Lodge 95 AF&AM.
